The main economic activities of Aguascalientes are industrial activity, livestock activity and commercial activity. Aguascalientes is one of the thirty-one states that make up the United Mexican States. It is located in the geographic center of the country, limiting to the north with Zacatecas and to the south with Jalisco.
Aguascalientes stands out for being one of the least extensive states, only surpassed by the states of Morelos and Tlaxcala. However, this has not stopped the economic growth of the hydro-warm region, which has been for three consecutive years the state with the best business climate, labor harmony and rule of law, according to the World Bank (WB).
Main activities of the Aguascalientes economy
The main economic activity in the state of Aguascalientes is the commerce sector. Aguascalientes stands out for being the state where it is easier, faster and cheaper to open a business.
1- Agriculture and livestock
These activities correspond to the main economic activities of the primary sector of Aguascalientes, representing a low 4.65% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state, together with the mining sector.
In agriculture we find the cultivation of corn, wheat, soybeans, sorghum, potatoes, beans, green chili and dried chili, tomato, alfalfa, garlic, avocado, and other fruit trees.
In livestock farming, bovine livestock (the most important in the region), equine, wool, goat, swine, mule and donkey stand out.
This activity also corresponds to the primary sector of the Aguascalientes economy. In mining production, the production of cement, lime, gold, silver, tin and lead stands out.
You can find vestiges of a large mining production in the Real de Asientos municipality.
The industry declined at the end of the 20th century but has now re-emerged with the installation of different international companies in Aguascalientes, which have carried out exploration work in the area.
The manufacturing industry represents the secondary sector of the state of Aguascalientes, which contributes 40.18% of the state GDP. Three large and important industries stand out here: textiles, technology and automotive.
The textile industry has been one of the main economic activities in Aguascalientes since the 10th century. This industry, together with the dull railroad industry, gave the first impetus for the economic growth that the state presents today.
The technology industry is relatively new in the state, however it has been well received and developed.
The automotive industry is characterized by the significant presence of the Nissan company, which has installed one of the largest automotive assembly companies in the country in hydro-hot territory.
As has been said, Aguascalientes is characterized by being the state where it is easier, faster and cheaper to open a business.
The commercial activities correspond to the tertiary sector of the state, contributing a formidable 55.17% of the state GDP, together with tourism.
Aguascalientes stands out for being the state with the most formidable and defensive business economy in the country, making it, according to the Forbes Mexico magazine web portal, the country’s “star” economy.
Tourism in the state of Aguascalientes has become one of the most important economic activities in the state since its economic and financial development took off.
The different tourist attractions and important celebrations, such as the San Marcos Fair, attract thousands of tourists every year who usually enjoy the hundreds of services offered by the state.
In addition, in the state of Aguascalientes there are four major five-star hotel chains, one of them classified as five stars and a diamond.
Aguascalientes is one of the regions with the best infrastructure and transportation system in the entire country. For example, the cement or steel industry are strong in this state, since they have the support of the capital’s administration.
Within the central-western region, Aguascalientes was the fourth state in terms of GDP contribution by construction, being only surpassed by Jalisco, Guanajuato and San Luis de Potosí.
